Digital Twins in Action: Alupress's Journey to Enhanced Flexibility and Efficiency
In this episode of the North West Aerospace Alliance News, Emma and Daniel explore how Alupress, a leading aluminum die-cast component manufacturer based in Bressanone, is leveraging digital twin technology to boost flexibility and efficiency. Founded in the late 1960s and specializing in the automotive sector, Alupress has made flexibility a cornerstone of its operations. Two years ago, they introduced VERICUT, a simulation and optimization software for CNC machines, developed by CGTech since 1988. This software creates a digital twin of their machine tools, allowing them to simulate and analyze the entire production process before it happens on the actual machine. The benefits include reduced cycle times, elimination of collisions, and improved machining quality. Additionally, the software optimizes tool paths and simulates different profiles or tools, contributing to sustainability by reducing energy consumption and extending tool lifecycles. Alupress implemented the software in two phases, starting with the Single Platform license to learn the software and then moving to Multi Platform as they needed to manage different machine geometries. Their approach showcases strategic planning, with machines ranging from single-spindle to twin-spindle, and with different rotary tables, requiring a scalable solution. The results have not only improved production efficiency but also strengthened their position as a technological partner, collaborating closely with their customers' technical teams to go beyond just manufacturing parts. Alupress is essentially helping their clients improve the efficiency of the production process and the quality of the products, creating a win-win situation. As the industry faces future challenges, Alupress is well-positioned to meet them with their focus on innovation and sustainability. This episode provides a comprehensive look at how embracing digital twin technology is setting a great example for others in the industry, showing how they're not just keeping up with the curve—they're leading it.
